The Kakuetta Gorge in Saint-Engrâce

The Kakuetta gorges are located in the Basque Pyrenees, in their entrails more precisely on the domains of the commune of Sainte-Engrâce in Haute-Soule. More than two kilometers long, the organized tour takes place between July and September at low tide from 8 a.m. to dusk each day.

A visit here is a veritable journey into the very roots of the Basque Country. The site boasts canyons, water-filled walls stretching for over 350 m, which you can discover on a path set right in the heart of the luxuriant natural environment. Gorges de Kakuetta: Grand étroit

A passage called “grand étroit” is the most grandiose of the visit, which will make you feel the smallness of the human being. The path skirts the torrent, which you cross via a footbridge. After a good hour’s walk through nature on footbridges, stairways, balconies and the path, which is perfectly safe at , you reach the famous waterfall, which falls to a height of over twenty metres, the origins of which are still unknown. Later, at , the visit will lead to the discovery of the lake caves for the more curious with their enormous stalactites and stalagmites.
