Peanut Turron (Hard) Extra

Description

Maria Simona’s Peanut Turrón is made according to the traditional recipe :

• Net weight: 200 g
• Ingredients: Roasted peanuts 38%, sugar, glucose syrup, honey, wafers (potato starch and sunflower oil) and egg white. May contain traces of almonds, hazelnuts and sesame.
• Cellaring: 9 months minimum. Once opened, store in a cool, dry, dark place and away from light and moisture, either in its original packaging, or wrapped in aluminum foil or cling film, then in an airtight box. We often make the mistake of storing nougat in the refrigerator, which only alters its organoleptic properties as well as its aroma and texture.

This product is gluten-free, so it is suitable for celiacs.

The history of the “Cacau” of Valencia

Originally from America, historical records seem to indicate that the peanut was introduced to Europe in Valencia. The “cacau“, as it is called in Valencia, appeared in the region by Don Francisco Fabián y Tuero, archbishop of the diocese of Valencia. This story happened in the mid-eighteenth century, but it wasn’t until the beginning of the next century that the peanut began to be used as an ingredient, beyond its individual consumption.

The hectares of the region devoted to this crop have decreased sharply during the 20th century. Indeed, this sharp drop is explained by a massive increase in the import of walnuts. Even though Spain now produces less than 200 tons of peanuts each year, which is a far cry from the millions of tons produced in countries like China and India, Valencia’s peanuts are considered to be of high quality.

It is therefore not surprising that Valencia has been one of the leaders in the production of peanut turron.
